Benefits Counseling

What is Benefits Counseling?

Benefits Counseling offers informed choices about employment and your benefits. This service is available to people between the ages of 18 and 59. You can access this service through your long-term care funder or DVR.

One of the biggest barriers to people working is the loss of benefits. Benefits counseling can alleviate these fears by demonstrating how earnings from work will impact your Social Security benefits and informing you about available work incentives. An experienced Benefits Specialist offers benefits counseling to explain the impact of employment on your Federal and State benefits.

This can include:

  • Social Security Disability Insurance (SSDI) and Disabled Adult Child (DAC) benefits

  • Supplemental Security Income (SSI) benefits

  • Long-Term Care services including IRIS and Family Care

  • Healthcare benefits, including Medicare and Medicaid

  • Housing assistance

  • FoodShare

  • Special Needs Trust Funds

When to connect with a Benefits Specialist?

  • If you are considering employment

  • If there has been a change to your benefits situation

  • If a parent retires, passes away or becomes disabled

  • If you transition from childhood benefits to adult benefits

  • If you are new to benefits
